Ukraine plans to raise ZNPP issue at first meeting with Russia in diplomatic format - Zelenskyy

Zelenskyy says occupation of ZNPP will be discussed at talks with Russia

The occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is currently out of operation and remains very dangerous because it is under the control of Russian invaders.

This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a press conference with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, Censor.NET reports citing RBC-Ukraine.

The head of state noted that Ukraine had initially proposed that Ukrainians should work at ZNPP under the control of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and that there should be no Russian militants on the territory of the plant. However, it was not possible to agree on this with the Russian side.

According to Zelenskyy, the administration of former U.S. President Joe Biden offered our country to stop attacks on energy facilities in Russia.

Then, in response, Ukraine proposed that Russia also stop its attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector.

"I talked about this openly with other leaders. And the Americans told me: yes, we are ready (to the proposal - ed.) not to shoot at the energy sector on both sides, but this did not happen because Russia is not interested," Zelenskyy said.

The President emphasized that ZNPP is currently not working because there is no fair and professional management of Ukraine.

"It does not work, it degrades, and it is very dangerous. In any case, the issue of the Zaporizhzhia station will be raised during the first meeting of the parties in a diplomatic format," he summarized.
