US partners will have to move "at Trump’s speed," - Lithuanian Foreign Minister Budrys

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Budrys urges partners to move at Trump’s speed

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys believes that the Donald Trump administration will first of all try to resolve domestic issues.

He said this on Facebook, Censor.NET reports.

According to the minister, "taking Trump lightly but literally" is a big mistake. The US partners will have to "move at Trump's speed".

Trump's first and second presidential terms are different in that it will no longer be enough to just watch.

"I heard a call for proposals and solutions - the U.S. needs like-minded people," Budris explained, adding that Lithuania has the potential to "create good deals" with the United States.

"We are already proposing what would be a good deal for peace in Ukraine, so that it is fair and sustainable. We need to think about how we can contribute to security in the Arctic or mutually beneficial energy trade, mobilize like-minded people in Europe and start a dialogue with the United States as soon as possible. This will certainly help us to better protect our interests - more security and prosperity for Lithuania," the minister emphasized.

Budris noted that the Trump administration is trying to solve the problems identified during the election campaign, including migration, technological competition, energy dependence, the heavy burden on the United States in terms of international security, and an inefficient public sector, among others.

"Other issues will be secondary. This does not mean that our national security interests are different; on the contrary, they overlap in many areas, from stability and security in Europe, stopping Russian imperialist aggression, reducing China's ability to dominate, to the physical destruction of terrorist organizations," he said.
