Ukraine is looking for solution to steel duties after Trump’s decree on imposing tariffs - Svyrydenko

Ukraine is actively working to find ways to resolve the problem of steel duties that the US will impose in March.
This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko, Censor.NET reports, citing the EP.
As noted, on 10 February 2025, US President Donald Trump signed a decree cancelling Ukraine's temporary exemption from duties on steel and aluminium imports. Starting 12 March 2025, steel and steel products supplied to the US from Ukraine will be subject to 25% tariffs.
In particular, Trump noted that the cancellation of the duty exemption benefited European producers rather than Ukrainian ones. Ukraine's steel imports to the US remained at 0.5% of total imports, while supplies from the EU increased from 11.2% to 14.8%.
‘The US decision to impose a duty on our steel starting from 12 March will naturally affect the steel industry, which has been affected by Russian aggression,’ Svyrydenko said.
According to her, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine is making every effort to ensure that Ukrainian steel remains exempt from US duties, but the new conditions will still have a significant impact on the sector.
Svyrydenko assured that the Ukrainian government will continue to work actively with international partners to find an optimal solution by 12 March.
As a reminder, US President Donald Trump signed a decree on 10 February imposing 25% tariffs on steel and aluminium imports.
