Switzerland to allocate almost EUR 1.6 billion for Ukraine’s reconstruction

Switzerland to provide funds for Ukraine’s reconstruction

On Wednesday, 12 February, the Swiss government approved a CHF 1.5 billion (EUR 1.58 billion) aid programme for Ukraine. The funds will be used for the restoration and development of Ukraine for the period 2025-2028.

This is stated on the website of the Swiss government, Censor.NET reports.

The release says that the state programme for 2025-28 is the first stage of the 12-year process of federal support for recovery, reform and sustainable development in Ukraine.

‘The programme includes a number of measures aimed at providing emergency assistance, establishing a just and sustainable peace, and creating a foundation for the Ukrainian people to move forward in their lives,’ the statement said.

The programme is the first part of a 5 billion franc (5.3 billion euro) aid plan announced in 2024.

The Swiss government has identified three priorities for the programme:

Economic recovery: support for small and medium-sized businesses, including agriculture. The focus is also on rebuilding urban infrastructure and repairing war-damaged or destroyed infrastructure (especially in frontline regions);

Public services: support for the normal functioning of healthcare systems, as well as social and educational sectors, energy supply, public transport and water supply.

‘The aim is to support the Ukrainian authorities in providing quality public services without discrimination and corruption,’ the statement said.

Protection of civilians and peace: The Swiss government focuses on emergency assistance and supports humanitarian demining, the search and identification of missing persons, and the documentation and legal prosecution of violations of international humanitarian and human rights law.
