Decision on when to hold elections in Ukraine does not depend on EU, - Ambassador Mathernova

EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova

The decision to hold elections in Ukraine will be made within the country, but not before the end of the war.

This was stated by the European Union Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

"I would like to make it very clear that the decision when to hold elections here (in Ukraine - ed.) does not depend on us. This is spelled out in your Constitution, in your laws, and you will decide," Mathernova said.

She noted that the European Union can facilitate a dialogue between parliamentary parties on this issue, as it has done before.

"But ultimately, the decision depends on your leaders, on the consensus between your political forces, when they determine the right time for elections. Certainly, not before the end of the war," the EU Ambassador summarized.

As a reminder, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that there can be no elections in Ukraine during martial law.
