Von der Leyen noted that the European Union is committed to working together with the United States to end the war in Ukraine and to secure the lasting and just peace that Ukrainians deserve. According to her, a peace agreement must be "strongly backed by security guarantees" and must protect Ukraine's independence and sovereignty.
"Any peace agreement must respect Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and be backed by strong security guarantees," she said.
