Stefanchuk on elections during war: "Ukraine needs bullets, not ballots"

Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasized that elections in Ukraine are possible only after the end of martial law.
He said this on Facebook, Censor.NET reports.
"Ukraine needs bullets, not ballots. When there are statements about the need for elections during a full-scale war, it is worthwhile to understand: is this a real opportunity or another tool to destabilize Ukraine?" - he said.
Stefanchuk said that Zelenskyy was elected in a democratic election.
"The elections in Ukraine will take place. They will be held according to the laws of Ukraine. The choice will be made by the citizens of Ukraine. And it will be a democratic election. The racist enemy cannot and will not dictate anything to us. We will not copy their practices, where the "winner" is known even before the vote, and pseudo-elections are held along with pseudo-referendums - in our case, at the point of Russian guns," the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada emphasized.
According to the head of the parliament, Russia has never been for peace - it has always covered its aggression with pseudo-peacekeeping.
"Its scenario is unchanged: first, occupation, then pressure through "negotiations" that should only consolidate what has been achieved by force. Should we pretend that this time it will be different?
Ukraine is not giving up on democracy. But elections are possible only after the end of martial law. This is a direct provision of Ukrainian law. Inventing "democracy" under fire is not democracy, but a performance in which the main beneficiary is in the Kremlin," he concluded.
Trump's statement on Zelenskyy's rating
To recap, the day before, Trump said that Ukraine needs to hold elections because Zelenskyy's approval rating has dropped to 4%.
As of the first half of February 2025, 57% of Ukrainians trust President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, while 37% do not, according to a KIIS study.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the statements about his 4% rating disinformation.
