Prosecutors of the Kherson Specialised Defence Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region served a notice of suspicion to a former division commander on charges of abuse of office, extortion and receipt of unlawful benefit.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the press centre of the Prosecutor General's Office.
According to the investigation, the suspect, being a division commander of a military unit performing combat missions, set up a scheme to enrich himself at the expense of his subordinates. He "sold" leave to the military personnel, concealing their absence from the command. In turn, his subordinates paid him off by buying household and computer equipment.
It is noted that in 2023-2024, the official "earned" almost UAH 1 million in this way.
During the searches conducted at the suspect's residences, illegally obtained property and documents confirming the receipt of illegal benefits were found.
Law enforcement officers detained the lieutenant colonel in accordance with Article 615 of the CPC of Ukraine. A motion to impose a custodial measure of restraint on him is currently being prepared.
