EU should increase aid to Ukraine – Danish Foreign Minister Rasmussen

Rasmussen calls on the EU to increase aid to Ukraine

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said that the Nordic and Baltic countries together are the world's second largest military donor to Ukraine after the United States.

According to Censor.NET, Rasmussen wrote about this in a column for the Financial Times.

"The future of Ukraine is the future of Europe," he said.

Rasmussen emphasized that the future of European security hangs in the balance, so it is time for the whole of Europe to step up. It is about determining the security priorities of Ukraine and Europe.

"Three things should be clearly understood. First, before discussing post-war plans, we must do everything possible to help Ukraine achieve peace from a position of strength.

Strength on the battlefield means strength at the negotiating table. The sense of urgency must be clear to all. We need to provide more military support as soon as possible to strengthen Ukraine and deter Russia from further aggression," Rasmussen writes.

Second, any settlement must be sustainable over time. This requires the commitment and engagement of Ukraine and Europe.

Third, if Europe steps up, we will also become a stronger partner for the United States. Only by stepping up our own efforts will we become indispensable in future negotiations, the minister said.

"We are also focused on ending the aggressive war. But a quick deal risks becoming a bad deal - and a dangerous one - if it does not lead to a lasting and just peace in Ukraine that includes strong security guarantees. A peace that respects Ukraine's borders and its right to self-determination and ensures that Russia cannot take advantage of the situation to rearm and attack again. An agreement imposed on Ukraine will not be sustainable," the Danish Foreign Minister added.

As a reminder, President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel said that Russia's main goal is to wipe Ukraine off the map, emphasizing the indomitable nature of the Ukrainian people.
