Xi Jinping and Putin discuss "crisis" in Ukraine – Chinese Foreign Ministry

On Monday, February 24, Chinese leader Xi Jinping held a telephone conversation with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, during which, in particular, the war in Ukraine was discussed.
This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Censor.NET reports.
"President Putin provided an update on the interaction between Russia and the United States, as well as on Russia's principled position on the crisis in Ukraine. He said that Russia is committed to addressing the root causes of the conflict and achieving a sustainable and long-term peace plan," the statement said.
In his turn, Xi Jinping noted that shortly after the full escalation of the "crisis in Ukraine", he outlined China's "basic position", including four points on what needs to be done to resolve the crisis.
"In September last year, China and Brazil, together with other countries of the Global South, established the Friends for Peace group to help create an atmosphere and conditions for a political settlement of the crisis. China welcomes the positive efforts made by Russia and relevant parties to resolve the crisis," the Foreign Ministry quoted Xi Jinping as saying.
The two sides agreed to maintain communication and coordination in various ways, the Chinese Foreign Ministry added.
