Trump committed to NATO and wants peace in Ukraine, - Starmer

Starmer comments on Trump’s commitment to NATO

The UK plays the role of a ‘bridge’ between the US and European countries,’ and this is not a new role for it, this bridge ’has existed for decades and I think it should continue to exist.’

According to Censor.NET, citing the BBC, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told journalists on board a plane on the way to Washington.

"This is not just a phrase. It's embedded in our defence and intelligence capabilities, in what we do in AUKUS [Australia-UK-US], in NATO, in 'Five Eyes', but also in the amount of intelligence that we share with the US, that we work with the US on, and it's of huge importance to the security and defence of both our countries," Starmer said.

He was asked whether America remains ‘on our side’ given its ambivalent stance on the war in Ukraine and NATO's guarantees. He replied that Trump is ‘clearly committed to NATO, clearly committed to the special relationship [with Britain]’.

"He wants peace in Ukraine, we all want peace in Ukraine, not least the Ukrainians themselves. That is why I am absolutely determined that we should not choose between one side of the Atlantic or the other. We will work with both the United States and our European allies, we have been doing so for decades and we will continue to do so as long as I am Prime Minister," the UK Prime Minister said.

Earlier, Starmer said that the people of the UK could also be threatened by Russian aggression.
