Special Envoy of Putin Dmitriev tries to get US to sign Ukraine deal favourable to Kremlin - Bloomberg

Dmitriev is trying to get US to sign deal on Ukraine favourable to Kremlin

Vladimir Putin's special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, is using business proposals and economic opportunities to engage the United States in negotiations on Ukraine on the Kremlin's terms.

Bloomberg writes about this, Censor.NET reports.

Dmitriev, who has significant influence in Russian business circles, is trying to convince the Donald Trump administration to invest in projects that will provide Russia with economic benefits.

One of the main areas he is offering the US is access to resources in eastern Ukraine, including important mineral deposits and rare earth metals. The Kremlin sees significant economic potential in these areas, and Dmitriev is trying to use business proposals to lure the US into negotiations that would allow Moscow not only to expand its economic influence but also to lift some international sanctions.

According to sources, Dmitriev, using his connections in Saudi Arabia and the United States, is convinced that Donald Trump's pragmatism could be the key to a deal that would benefit both Russia and the United States. He also offers America profitable investment projects in areas such as rare metal mining, aluminium production, and cooperation in the Arctic. Dmitriev's proposals could include multibillion-dollar investments in projects that would restore economic cooperation with Russia and provide access to resources that are important for technological development and energy.

As noted, these proposals face serious challenges. First of all, against the backdrop of international sanctions imposed on Russia, US businessmen face great risks when trying to invest in Russia, as well as due to the difficult political situation. In addition, experts say, this approach could be perceived as a deviation from the principles of supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and international law. Therefore, even Dmitriev, who has a high position in Russian economic circles, is unlikely to be able to quickly implement his ambitious plans.

The newspaper writes that Dmitriev, who has been head of the Russian Sovereign Wealth Fund since 2011, is actively seeking ways to strengthen economic cooperation between Russia and the West. His strategy is to use American pragmatism to strike lucrative deals and maintain Russia's economic influence in Ukraine, which could become the main point of contact in US-Russian negotiations.
