Putin may use Zelenskyy-Trump dispute as bargaining chip - WSJ

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin may take advantage of the dispute between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy to once again accuse Ukraine of allegedly not wanting a peaceful settlement of the war.

At the same time, it is noted that the disagreements between the United States and Ukraine jeopardize an important opportunity to provide stronger support for Ukraine's long-term defense.
Alina Polyakova, Director General of the Center for European Policy Analysis, emphasized that Putin enjoys the conflict between the US and Ukraine more than anyone else. She believes that the Russians may act quickly, while emotions are fresh, to conclude a deal on Ukraine's surrender.
However, according to Polyakova, it remains to be seen how much the disrupted meeting at the White House will damage plans to develop a joint negotiation strategy between the United States and its European allies.
According to Rachel Rizzo, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council think tank, the relationship between the American and Ukrainian presidents may be permanently damaged after the recent events. The analyst notes that if nothing changes dramatically in the coming days, Ukraine will be effectively excluded from potential conversations with Trump and Putin.
American political observers believe that Trump plans to wait and see what the Ukrainian president does.
