Vance on US relations with Ukraine: We need not public statements, but effective participation in peaceful settlement

US Vice President J.D. Vance said that the United States expects private diplomacy rather than public statements from Ukraine.
Vance said this on the sidelines of a hearing in the US House of Representatives' Defence Committee, Censor.NET reports citing Voice of America.
When asked by journalists what President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy should do to change the tense situation that has arisen between Kyiv and Washington, the US Vice President replied:
"I think the most important thing is that a lot of people are focusing on public statements, saying that President Zelensky needs to say that he wants peace, or President Zelensky needs to apologise to President Trump. Public statements are not even close to playing as important a role as the actions of Ukrainians aimed at effective participation in a peaceful settlement," Vance said.
"We need Ukrainians to come to us privately and say: this is what we need, this is what we want. That way we will be involved in the process of ending this conflict. This is the most important thing, and this lack of private conversations is what worries us the most," the US Vice President said.
