Starmer helped Zelenskyy find an approach to Trump after dispute in Oval Office - Telegraph

Zelenskyy’s meeting with Starmer

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer played a key role in the negotiations between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump, convincing the Ukrainian leader to take a step towards reconciliation after their tense conversation in the Oval Office.

This was reported by The Telegraph with reference to its sources, Censor.NET informs.

According to the publication, on Tuesday, Starmer had a telephone conversation with Zelenskyy to explain to him what exactly needed to be said to Trump to normalize the negotiation process. Soon after, the Ukrainian president published a message on the social network X in which he praised Trump's "strong leadership", thanked the US for military support, and expressed regret over the conflict.

Zelenskyy also stated his readiness to "sit down at the negotiating table" with Trump and proposed signing an agreement on minerals. In addition, he expressed support for a ceasefire at sea and in the air.

As noted, this initiative from the Ukrainian side appeared less than 24 hours after it became known about Trump's decision to suspend the supply of military aid to Ukraine. On the eve of the telephone conversation with Starmer, the British Prime Minister also held talks with the US President.

The Telegraph notes that the UK and its European partners decided to use their close ties with Zelenskyy to convey to him the "hard truth" about the need for diplomatic steps. In London, it was considered important to end the conflict around the dispute between Zelenskyy and Trump, but in Westminster, they remain concerned that one statement by the Ukrainian leader may not be enough, as Washington's position is becoming increasingly tough.

Trump's speech to the US Congress

Donald Trump said he had received an "important letter" from Volodymyr Zelensky about his intention to sign a mineral agreement and his willingness to sit down at the negotiating table to bring about a lasting, lasting peace. At the same time, he noted that his administration is in serious discussions with the Russian side. Trump stressed that he had received "strong signals that they (the Russians. - Ed.) are ready for peace."

Trump and Zelenskyy's dispute

As a reminder, on Friday, February 28, a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took place at the White House.

Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy began to argue and became more heated during the meeting in the Oval Office.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is leaving the White House early after meeting with Donald Trump in the Oval Office.

The signing of the mineral agreement between Ukraine and the United States did not take place in Washington.

US President Donald Trump, after an argument with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting at the White House, stated that the latter was allegedly not ready for peace and "showed disrespect".

The world community and US officials reacted to the dispute between the leaders of Ukraine and the United States.

On March 4, it became known that the White House had suspended all military aid to Ukraine.
