There are differences between EU and US, but we are close allies, - von der Leyen

Von der Leyen talks about EU-US relations

Despite the disagreements between the European Union and the United States, they remain close allies.

This was stated by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen at a press conference in Brussels on March 9, Censor.NET reports citing European Pravda.

The head of the European Commission believes that the common interests shared by the EU and the United States outweigh the different assessments of some events that the governments of the two countries currently have.

"The United States has been our closest ally for over 80 years. In the face of adversity, the United States and Europe have always been stronger together. And yes, there are differences, we may have different views on some topics. But if you look at the common interests that we have, they always outweigh our differences," said von der Leyen.

"We will have differences. We must resolve them, we must find common ground," she added.

As one example, Ursula von der Leyen reminded that Europe's goal is to ensure that "Ukraine is in a state where it can continue to fight until we achieve a just and lasting peace."

"So, we are allies (with the United States - ed.), but that means that all allies have to fulfill their responsibilities," von der Leyen summarized.
