Register of damages from Russian aggression expects at least 6-8 million applications - Lubinets

Register of losses from Russian aggression expects at least 6-8 million applications

The register of damages caused by Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine expects at least 6-8 million applications.

This was stated by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets, Censor.NET reports .

He recalled that in May 2023, at the initiative of Ukraine, the European Union and 42 other countries, the International Register of Damage Caused by the Russian Aggression against Ukraine was created.

"The Register of Damage is an official mechanism for recording evidence of damage, loss or harm caused by the war after February 24, 2022. Its main purpose is to document applications from individuals and legal entities, as well as the state of Ukraine, for the purpose of further compensation for a wide range of damages," the Ombudsman said.

He noted that the Register of Losses is currently accepting applications from individuals and legal entities through Diia.

"The Register of Losses expects at least 6-8 million applications. This makes it one of the largest compensation mechanisms in the world. Gradually, new categories of applications will be opened that will cover different areas of damage," said the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights.

Lubinets noted that since all the processes of the Register of Damages involve the processing of personal data, the issue of their protection is a priority, and therefore the staff of the Ombudsman's Office participate in the activities of the working group on filing applications for compensation for losses, damages or harm caused by Russia.

"The main task of the working group is to ensure an effective mechanism for submitting applications, as well as to develop regulations to harmonize the activities of the Register of Damages with the current legislation of Ukraine. Our Office, together with the Register of Damages, is working to raise awareness among affected persons about their right to compensation and the possibility of filing applications to the Register," said the Ombudsman.
