Chiefs of General Staff from 34 countries are discussing security guarantees for Ukraine in France

Meeting of EU military leaders

French President Emmanuel Macron is holding talks with 34 chiefs of general staff of countries that are ready to provide security guarantees to Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to Ukrinform.

As noted, the meeting, which is taking place at the Defense Academy at the Military School, is attended by military leaders from states that are members of the European Union and/or NATO, including the United Kingdom and Turkey.

"This meeting is about our look ahead and our thoughts on what the Ukrainian army should be like in the future, because we proceed from the principle that the Ukrainian army remains the main possible guarantee of security," commented on the importance of this conversation earlier on Tuesday, Minister of the Armed Forces Sebastian Lecornu.

That is why he advocates that Europe should reject calls for the demilitarization of Ukraine's army.

According to the Chief of the General Staff of the French Armed Forces, General Thierry Burkhard, on social networking site X, the meeting is attended by the chiefs of general staff from 34 countries ready to contribute to providing security guarantees for Ukraine.

Among them are representatives from Albania, Germany, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Norway, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, and Turkey.

On Wednesday, March 12, the French Minister of Defense will meet with his counterparts from the E5 group (France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy and Poland), as well as representatives of the European Union and NATO, and, via videoconference, with the Ukrainian Minister of Defense. The talks will also focus on assistance to Ukraine.

As a reminder, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will hold a virtual meeting of European leaders on March 15 to discuss the situation in Ukraine.
