Elections in Ukraine will be held after war is over and martial law is lifted, - Zelenskyy

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that martial law in Ukraine will be lifted only after the war is over, after which elections will be held in accordance with the law.

The head of state said this during a briefing, Censor.NET reports.

Answering a question about the possibility of lifting martial law after the ceasefire, Zelenskyy noted that the priority is to achieve a ceasefire.

"Are we ready for a ceasefire or for silence? We did exactly that, and we said: "Yes". The question is whether the "Russian side" will be ready for this," the president said.

He also emphasized the importance of technical monitoring of the implementation of the ceasefire.

"This is a very important aspect. I have frankly said that I consider silence in the sky and at sea to be an understandable thing for us to monitor. But if it's silence everywhere, knowing who we're dealing with and understanding the experience of the past years, then we need technical assistance. Our partners assure us of this. The parties talked about this, it is very important," Zelenskyy said.

The President added that after the ceasefire is reached, it is necessary to develop a step-by-step plan to end the war with security guarantees for Ukraine.

"If all this is done, then after the preparation of this plan, in any case, there will be a phased implementation that will lead to the end of the war. After the war is over, martial law will be lifted. And after martial law is lifted, elections will be held in accordance with Ukrainian law. No one will deliberately postpone anything," Zelenskyy emphasized.
