Macron offers alternative to European troops in Ukraine - Telegraph

Macron on alternative to Europe’s troops

French President Emmanuel Macron is considering the possibility of setting up a UN-led mission to prevent a new Russian attack on Ukraine in the event of a possible peace agreement. This is seen as an alternative to the deployment of European troops.

According to Censor.NET, The Telegraph writes about this.

Macron is studying various scenarios that could replace the deployment of a European military contingent to Ukraine. This plan is being developed in conjunction with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

In particular, the French president is considering the possibility of creating a UN-led peacekeeping mission to protect future peace agreements. Macron and Starmer are initiating the formation of a ‘coalition of the willing’ among NATO and EU countries to create a peacekeeping force with the support of US security guarantees.

It is also reported that Macron raised the issue of a possible UN peacekeeping mission during the European Council summit, where he discussed this issue with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

As a reminder, the deployment of British fighter jets to Ukraine was discussed at a meeting at the UK's Permanent Joint Staff on Thursday.
