Baerbock on €3 billion in military aid for Ukraine: This should have been done long ago

Annalena Baerbock on additional aid to Ukraine

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock commented on the Bundesrat's approval of an additional 3 billion euros for military aid to Ukraine. She noted that this step makes it possible to plan assistance to Ukraine.

This is stated in Baerbock's statement, Censor.NET reports.

The German official noted that it took a long time to make this decision, but she is pleased that the situation was eventually resolved.

"It was high time to do this: the military situation for Ukraine has become increasingly difficult in recent months. The country urgently needs more anti-aircraft missiles, artillery ammunition, spare parts and weapon systems to continue to counter Russian aggression, which violates international law," Baerbock said.

The German Foreign Minister also welcomed the fact that Germany will be able to allocate about 7 billion euros for military support to Ukraine in 2025.

"In addition, there are commitments of €8.25 billion that we can use to provide further military support to Ukraine until 2029. This is a big step forward and also creates planning security for Ukraine," Baerbock said.

According to her, in this way, Germany is taking the lead at the European level and showing that it will continue to stand firmly on the side of the people of Ukraine. At the same time, Berlin expects that European partners will now also work to mobilize additional resources to support Ukraine.

"By increasing our resources, we are sending a clear message to Russia, especially at this critical juncture, that we remain steadfast in our support for a sovereign, democratic and defensible Ukraine. In doing so, we are strengthening Ukraine's position in negotiations for a lasting peace," Baerbock said.

As a reminder, on March 21, the German Bundestag supported constitutional amendments that allow for increased defense spending, including an additional €3 billion in military aid to Ukraine.
