Europe seeks alternatives to sending peacekeepers to Ukraine - Reuters

Europe is considering other security guarantees for Ukraine instead of peacekeepers

Amid discussions about sending troops to Ukraine to ensure security, Europe wants to consider alternative options.

This is reported by Reuters with reference to unnamed officials, Censor.NET informs.

According to the unnamed officials, Europe's efforts to create security mechanisms for Ukraine are shifting from sending troops to other alternatives as they face political and logistical constraints, as well as the prospect of Russia and the United States opposing their plans.

While Britain and France have been working for weeks on a plan to send thousands of soldiers to Ukraine to help enforce a future ceasefire, diplomats say there is a growing realization that such a mission is not the most likely option.

"They are taking a step back from ground troops and trying to reconsider their actions towards something more reasonable," the agency quoted one European diplomat as saying.

Another diplomat said that the idea of sending troops is now considered "not very attractive."

The article also says that some European allies are outraged at the prospect of sending troops without firm American guarantees and an international mandate.

They are concerned about the costs, the lack of manpower and equipment, and, ultimately the prospect of being at war with Russia.
