Over 12.8 thousand civilians have been killed since beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine – UN

Despite hopes for a cessation of hostilities, Russia continues to shell civilians in Ukraine on a daily basis. In March, Russia intensified its shelling of Ukraine.
This was stated by UN Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Joyce Msuya at a meeting of the Security Council on Wednesday, March 26, Ukrinform reports, Censor.NET informs.
"We hope for a complete cessation of hostilities and, ultimately, peace in Ukraine, but the situation for the civilian population continues to deteriorate... Not a day has passed since March 1 without an attack on the civilian population," the UN Assistant Secretary-General said.
The UN is "particularly outraged" by Russia's strikes across Ukraine on March 7, which killed 21 civilians and injured many more.
According to the UN Assistant Secretary-General, last week Russian terror claimed dozens of lives and injured hundreds of people in different regions. In particular, she mentioned that on March 21, a drone attack in Zaporizhzhia killed a family of three, and on March 24, almost 100 civilians, including more than 20 children, were wounded in Sumy.
Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, 12,881 civilians in Ukraine have been killed, including 681 children, and nearly 30,500 have been injured, the Assistant Secretary-General noted. More than 2,300 attacks on medical facilities have been recorded. According to her, more than 13 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, including more than 10 million displaced persons, including 3.7 million internally displaced persons.
In addition, the UN representative emphasized the "serious global reduction in funding for humanitarian operations, including for Ukraine," which further weakens the UN's ability to provide vital assistance. She emphasized that humanitarian needs should be "a central part of discussions on a ceasefire or long-term agreement."
