Ministry of Defense and General Staff are still working on demobilization bill – Chernohorenko

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are working "very quickly" to prepare demobilization bill.

According to Censor.NET, citing Interfax-Ukraine, Deputy Defense Minister Kateryna Chernohorenko said this during an hour of questions to the government at the Verkhovna Rada plenary session on Friday.

"The Ministry of Defense, together with the General Staff, is working on the preparation of this bill... the position of the General Staff, the position of the Chief of the General Staff is very important for this bill, because they are responsible for the success of military operations that are currently being conducted by our military," Chernohorenko said.

According to her, everyone understands the social significance of this bill.

"We need to work together, and we are doing it very quickly," she added.

Demobilization bill

On April 11, 2024, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law on mobilization. It obliged the Ministry of Defense to develop a demobilization bill within eight months.

By December 18, the Ministry of Defense had to prepare a corresponding draft law.

According to media reports, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has asked the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence to postpone the deadline for drafting a bill on the conditions for demobilization of military personnel during martial law until March 18, 2025.
