Romania’s Supreme Defense Council decides to extend support for Ukraine

Supreme Council of National Defense of Romania

The Supreme Council of National Defense of Romania (CSAT) has decided to continue military support for Ukraine.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to Ukrinform.

This was the first meeting of the CSAT after Ilies Bolozhan took office as acting president of Romania in February.

The council analyzed the situation related to Russia's war against Ukraine. The participants paid special attention to the situation with regard to the prospects for negotiations on a peaceful settlement. It is noted that Romania welcomed the results of the recent ceasefire talks in Riyadh and the US efforts in this direction, "as a first step towards reaching a peace agreement."

"Romania, as a neighboring country with the longest land and sea border with Ukraine, is directly interested in ending the war. We want Ukraine to enjoy peace and to be able to follow its European path, in accordance with the decisions taken at the EU level. Our support for Ukraine will continue," the Romanian presidential administration said in a press release.

The participants also discussed strengthening defense on NATO's eastern flank, agreeing to a gradual increase in Romania's share of GDP for defense spending.
