US was angry about Ukraine’s successful attack on cruiser "Moskva" because they were not warned - NYT

U.S. officials were outraged and angry over the successful attack by a Ukrainian Neptune missile on the Russian Black Sea Fleet's flagship, the Moskva missile cruiser, in April 2022.
According to Censor.NET, this is stated in a New York Times investigation into the role of the United States in Ukrainian operations against Russia.
It is noted that two months after the full-scale invasion of Russia, Ukrainian generals traveled to Wiesbaden, Germany, where they agreed with the US military on a partnership in intelligence, strategy, planning, and technology.
"In mid-April 2022, about two weeks before the meeting in Wiesbaden, American and Ukrainian naval officers were on a scheduled call to share intelligence when something unexpected appeared on their radar screens - a notification of the sinking of the Russian cruiser Moskva," the article says.
According to an unnamed former senior U.S. officer, the Americans said in surprise: "Oh, it's Moscow!" The Ukrainians said: "Oh, my God. Thank you very much. Goodbye."
"The sinking was a signal of triumph- a demonstration of Ukrainian skill and Russian ineptitude. But the episode also reflected the disjointed state of Ukrainian-American relations in the early weeks of the war. Ukrainians, for their part, were acting out of their own deep-seated skepticism," the newspaper notes.
According to the NYT, the strike on the Russian ship caused anger among American officials because the Ukrainians did not warn them about it. The US was also surprised that Ukraine had missiles capable of reaching and hitting such a cruiser.
This also caused panic, as the administration of former US President Joe Biden did not plan to allow Ukraine to attack "such a powerful symbol of Russian power."
As a reminder, on April 13, 2022, it became known that the Ukrainian military hit the Russian missile cruiser Moskva, which was the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, with Neptune missiles.
This is the same ship that threatened the Ukrainian military on Zmiinyi Island and received the response, "Russian warship, go to...!"
