Meloni worried about Trump’s policies, including on Ukraine - Bloomberg

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who has been building a relationship with US President Donald Trump for a long time, is extremely concerned about his policies.
Bloomberg writes about this, citing sources in the Italian government, Censor.NET reports.
According to Italian officials, Meloni and her team avoid criticising Trump, but at the same time fear his decisions on trade relations. In particular, US tariffs have hit car manufacturers such as Stellantis and Ferrari, forcing the latter to raise prices in the US.
"She carefully avoids any public criticism of the US president, and everything she says about trade or promoting peace in Ukraine is carefully calibrated to avoid antagonising the White House," the newspaper writes.
As noted, Meloni positions herself as a key figure in the EU and in relations with Washington. She was the only European leader to attend Trump's inauguration, meet with him at Mar-a-Lago, and keep in touch with Elon Musk. She was expecting to visit the White House to seek an easing of US trade restrictions on the EU, but there is still no specific date for this meeting.
Last week, the US imposed a 25% duty on Italian cars exported to the US. It is expected that new restrictions, which may be announced in the near future, will cause even more damage to the Italian economy.
The publication writes that at the same time, Meloni is facing internal and external pressure. Her coalition is being criticised, and the EU is demanding that Rome provide more financial support to Ukraine and increase defence spending.
The Italian government is now in a difficult situation: instead of strengthening transatlantic ties, Meloni may have to choose sides.
