Consequences of the attack on the Chernihiv Drama Theater

Under the procedural supervision of the Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, the Lieutenant General, Chief of Staff and Major General, Chief of Missile and Artillery Command of the "West" troop grouping of the Russian Armed Forces were served with a notice of suspicion.

As noted, they are charged with violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with premeditated murder, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

What did the investigation find?

As noted, the chief of staff of the enemy forces, realizing the possible consequences of the use of heavy missile weapons in the central part of Chernihiv, prepared a combat order for a missile strike, which he signed together with the group's commander. This became the basis for the use of an Iskander cruise missile on the city on August 19, 2023.

In turn, the head of the Missile and Artillery Directorate organized the training of the relevant missile units and gave combat orders for the attack.

The shelling killed 7 people, including a child, and injured 193 people of varying severity. Residential apartment buildings, non-residential and administrative buildings, vehicles, and other property of individuals and legal entities sustained significant destruction and damage.

International humanitarian law prohibits indiscriminate strikes that result in civilian deaths and damage to civilian objects.

As a reminder, in November 2024, in the same proceedings, the commander of the "West" group of troops of the Russian Armed Forces was served a notice of suspicion on the fact of organizing this missile strike.

Earlier, Censor.NET reported that Russian General Nikiforov, who ordered the Iskander to strike the Chernihiv Drama Theater, was served with a notice of suspicion.

As reported, on the afternoon of August 19, the enemy shelled the center of Chernihiv. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy showed the consequences of the enemy strike. According to the latest data, the number of victims of the Russian missile strike on Chernihiv has reached 156 people. 7 people were killed.
