Zelenskyy: Issue of NATO membership was not and is not part of subsoil agreement with United States

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy

The issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO has never been part of the minerals deal with the United States.

This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

"As for the new draft of this agreement, which our teams - Ukrainian and American - are currently working on, it is more accurate to say that lawyers are working on it more now. First of all, the details about lawyers can be discussed with the team of our ministries, because these are the relevant legal campaigns, there is a request to them, which of these campaigns will work, there are several very strong campaigns, which of these legal campaigns will work, now a decision will be made in the coming days," the head of state said.

Zelenskyy emphasized that "there is no NATO issue in this agreement and there never was."

As previously reported, the current version of the minerals agreement is unfavorable for Ukraine, so Kyiv will ask the US to make changes.

Earlier, Yaroslav Zhelezniak, a member of the Voice party and deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada's Tax Committee, said that the United States had handed over a new draft of the minerals agreement to Ukraine, which must be ratified by the Verkhovna Rada.

In his opinion, this option is unfavorable for Ukraine.

According to media reports, Donald Trump's administration has returned to the minerals agreement the requirement to reimburse all the aid the United States has provided to Ukraine since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.
