US imposes duties on cars

The United States imposes 25% duties on imports of cars and trucks. The duties will take effect on Thursday, 3 April.

This is stated in a document of the Federal Register of the US Department of Commerce, Censor.NET reports.

According to the Federal Register, 25% tariffs on cars will come into force on 3 April.

It is also reported that 25% tariffs on auto parts will be introduced on 3 May. The White House has ordered the Ministry of Commerce to start the process of adding additional auto parts to the list within 90 days, including at the request of US manufacturers.

Currently, the list of parts includes dozens of tariff codes, including engines, transmissions, powertrains and electrical components, as well as other parts such as brake hoses, but domestic manufacturers will be able to request additions to the list.

The report also says that for vehicles that comply with the rules of origin of the US-Mexico-Canada agreement, importers may pay 25% duty only on the "non-US" content of the order.

Earlier it was reported that on 2 April, US President Donald Trump would announce the introduction of the largest trade restrictions in the last 100 years.
