Trump announces large-scale duties

On Wednesday, 2 April, US President Donald Trump announced the introduction of at least 10% tariffs on almost all goods imported to the US. For some countries, the tariffs are higher. In particular, China - 34%, the European Union - 20%.

The head of the White House said this during a press conference, Censor.NET reports.

"The golden age of America is coming back. Jobs and factories will return. We will strengthen our domestic industrial base," the American leader said.

Trump said that the tariffs would lead to "increased competition and lower prices for consumers" in the United States.

He also reminded that on 3 April, the United States will impose a 25% duty on all foreign-made cars and parts imported into the United States.

During his speech, Trump presented a table with tariff rates for other countries:

  • China: 34%
  • EU: 20%
  • Vietnam: 46%
  • Japan: 24%
  • United Kingdom: 10%
  • South Korea: 25%
  • Thailand: 36%
  • Switzerland: 31%
  • Cambodia: 49%
  • Taiwan: 32%
  • Malaysia: 24%.
  • India: 26%

The US tariffs have also affected Ukraine - a 10% duty will be imposed on its goods.
