Europe is prepared to respond: EU prepares countermeasures to respond to Trump’s tariffs, - von der Leyen

The tariff duties imposed by Donald Trump are a serious blow to businesses and consumers around the world.
According to Censor.NET, this was stated by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
"The universal tariffs announced by the US are a major blow to businesses and consumers worldwide. Europe is prepared to respond. We'll always protect our interests and values. We're also ready to engage. And to go from confrontation to negotiation," von der Leyen said
She recalled that over the past 80 years, trade between the EU and the US has created millions of jobs and contributed to economic growth.
The European Commission is already finalising the first package of countermeasures in response to the steel tariffs and is also preparing for additional actions if the negotiations with the US fail.
Von der Leyen stressed that the EU will closely monitor the indirect effects of the tariffs, including the risks of dumping and oversaturation of the European market due to diverted supplies.
"We will always stand up for Europe, its interests and values," she concluded.
As a reminder, Trump signed an executive order imposing a minimum 10 per cent tariff on almost all goods entering the US. For some countries, the tariffs are higher. In particular, China - 34%, the European Union - 20%.
Later, it became known that Trump had declared a state of emergency in the country's economy.
