Finnish Defense Minister Häkkinen: Even peace in Ukraine will not stop threat from Russia

Häkkänen

Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkinen has warned that even if peace is established in Ukraine, Russia will remain a long-term threat to Europe.

He said this before the summit of EU defense ministers in Warsaw, Censor.NET reports with reference to Ukrinform.

According to him, in the next three to five years, without proper defense strengthening, Europe may face Russia's aggressive intentions. Therefore, it is necessary not only to develop independent defense capabilities but also to continue military support for Ukraine.

"The biggest mistake that Europe can make now is to think that if peace comes to Ukraine, it will mean a kind of end to aggression. No, we have to build an independent defense in the long term. Now we also have to be even stronger in our military support for Ukraine," Häkkinen emphasized.

He also warned that Russia expects fatigue from the war among democratic countries and hopes that they will stop helping Kyiv. The minister emphasized that it is important to show patience and continue to support Ukraine, as Finland does.
