If we start demobilization now, frontline will not be stabilized, it will "collapse" - "servant of people" Fediienko

Law on demobilization

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence will adhere to the position of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on demobilization, otherwise the "front will collapse."

This was stated on the air of Radio NV by a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee, MP of the Servant of the People party Oleksandr Fediienko, Censor.NET reports.

The MP noted that the Ministry of Defense has developed a draft law on demobilization at the request of the Rada, and the relevant committee takes into account the proposals of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defense.

"As a person who frequently visits the combat zone, communicating with both [military personnel in] leadership positions (these are combatants, brigadiers) and ordinary guys, privates, I understand that if we try to demobilize at once (even the rotation is quite critical), taking into account the number of people who are in the combat zone, it will be impossible to stabilize the front, which will crumble," Fediienko explained.

He noted that the issue of demobilization is "painful" and it is very difficult for soldiers who have been in the combat zone for "two or three years" and their families. However, the Russian army does not stop and "on the contrary, it begins to try to escalate the active phase."

"The Committee will adhere to the position on security that comes from the leadership of the General Staff in this matter," the MP added.

Draft law on demobilization

On April 11, 2024, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law on mobilization. It obliged the Ministry of Defense to develop a draft law on demobilization within eight months.

The Ministry of Defense had to prepare the relevant draft law by December 18.

According to media reports, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has asked the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence to postpone the deadline for preparing a draft law on the conditions for demobilizationof military personnel during martial law until March 18, 2025.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine also prepared a draft law on the demobilization and rotation of military personnel during martial law back in January. However, the document was not supported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
