186 Ukrainian artists and 102 media workers killed in hostilities - Ministry of Culture

Cultural losses of Ukraine

As a result of the war launched by the Russian Federation, 186 Ukrainian artists and 102 media workers were killed in Ukraine.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the press centre of the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine.

As noted, this data not only shows the scale of losses, but also reminds us of the tragic pages of our history. Just as in the 20s and early 30s of the twentieth century, the Stalinist regime destroyed generations of Ukrainian artists, so today Russia is deliberately destroying Ukraine's cultural elite.

"The literary and artistic generation known as the ‘Executed Renaissance’ gave the world masterpieces of literature, painting, music and theatre. These artists were the pride of our nation. Today, we are once again losing not just talented Ukrainians, but a part of our soul, because each of our artists is a unique personality who enriched Ukrainian culture," the statement said.

"The journalists currently working in Ukraine are producing important news, investigations and reports in a high-risk environment. They record the events of the war to provide Ukraine and the world with reliable information about what is happening. Media professionals collect irrefutable evidence of the occupiers‘ crimes 24/7 and highlight the strength, heroism and courage of our defenders," the ministry added.

It is also noted that not only Ukrainian, but also 7 foreign media workers who told the world about the events in Ukraine were killed during the war.

Systematic crimes against journalists and the media committed by Russia pose a serious threat to freedom of speech and information security, undermining democratic values and human rights.
