Brink resigns over disagreements with Trump administration’s policies - FT

Why did Brink resign

US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink has resigned amid escalating political differences with President Donald Trump's administration.

According to Censor.NET, the Financial Times reports.

It is noted that Brink's resignation also coincided with the complication of her working relationship with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, although, according to those in the know, this was not the main reason for her decision to leave.

People familiar with Brink's decision to resign said she was under increasing pressure from senior Trump administration officials who questioned her ability to support their strategy on Ukraine.

Trump's policy differs significantly from that of the previous Biden administration, which provided Kyiv with billions of dollars in military and financial aid and imposed sanctions on Russia.

"Western diplomats in Kyiv have described Brink as an important defender of Ukraine, both publicly and privately, since the first weeks of the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022. One described her as a "strong personality" and a "serious diplomat," adding that pressure from both the Trump and Zelenskyy administrations had taken a toll on her," the newspaper writes.

Ukrainian officials considered the ambassador to be overly critical of them, especially with regard to the country's efforts to fight corruption.

Officials pointed to a noticeable shift in her messaging in recent years, which they believe has become closer to Trump's position and increasingly critical of Ukraine.

The Financial Times' analysis of Brink's posts on social network X revealed a significant change in her rhetoric after Trump's inauguration on 20 January. In the 75 days before the new president took office, she was critical of Russia and the war in Ukraine 53 times, while in the 75 days afterwards, she published only five posts mentioning Russia, none of which blamed it for the war.

The White House and State Department did not comment when asked about the policy differences between the Trump administration and Brink. Brink could not be reached for comment, the FT reported.

The day before, it became known that Brink wanted to leave his post early.
