Enemy troops crossed the state border at the end of February in an attempt to create a buffer zone in the Sumy region: they plan to surround or semi-encircle Sumy.

"One of the goals is to create a cordon or semi-cordon around Sumy," the source said.
It is stated that in order to prevent such a scenario, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to hold a bridgehead in the Kursk region near the villages of Oleshnia and Hornal. For the same purpose, the Ukrainian military also launched a limited operation at the junction of the Belgorod and Kursk regions. In this area, the Ukrainian Armed Forces pushed through the Russian defense with some fighting but created a bridgehead near the villages of Demydivka and Popovka.
For a long time, the Ukrainian authorities did not publicly confirm the breakthrough in the Belgorod region, but on April 8, Zelenskyy announced the "Ukrainian presence" in the region.
"We continue to conduct active operations in the border areas in the enemy's territory, and this is absolutely fair - the war must return to where it came from," President Zelenskyy said.
He explained that the presence of the Armed Forces in the Belgorod region prevented Russia from "forming an offensive fist" to attack the Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
There is currently no threat to Kharkiv. Russians are trying to become more active in Vovchansk and on the Oskil River.
As of April, the enemy has created and expanded several footholds there - near the villages of Topoli, Dvorichna, Kamianka, and Novomlynsk.
If he unites them and moves armored vehicles there, a defense crisis may arise near Kupiansk, as well as on the border of the Kharkiv and Belgorod regions.
As a reminder, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Andrii Kovalenko, recently stated that Russian occupation forces have intensified their activities in the direction of Sumy and Kharkiv regions. It is too early to talk about an offensive on Sumy and Kharkiv.
