Russian strike on Sumy could have been result of targeted information leak - "servant of people" Venislavskyi

Russia’s attack on Sumy on April 13

The Russian strike on the center of Sumy on April 13 will be considered by the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence.

This was reported on Radio Svoboda by People's Deputy of the Servant of the People and representative of the committee Fedir Venislavsky, Censor.NET reports.

Among other things, he said, the committee will find out whether there was a meeting of the Ukrainian military for awarding the day before.

"Tomorrow we will have a committee meeting. This issue is also one of the questions we plan to ask the military leadership, the Ministry of Defense, the Chief of Staff," Venislavskyi said.

The parliamentarian also suggested that the Russian strike could have been the result of a deliberate leak of information, but Venislavskyi emphasized that this is the competence of the Security Service of Ukraine.

Russian strike on Sumy on April 13, 2025

As a reminder, on 13 April, Russian invaders launched two missile attacks on the centre of Sumy. 14, 15, 16 April were declared Days of Mourning in the city for those killed in the Russian attack on 13 April.

As of the morning of 15 April, 35 people were killed, including two children.

Servant of the People People's Deputy Mariana Bezuhla said that the Russians struck Sumy with ballistic missiles on April 13 because of the lineup for the awarding of the military from the TDF.

Later, Konotop Mayor Artem Semenikhin said that the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Volodymyr Artiukh, organized an award ceremony for the 117th TDF Brigade at the Sumy University Congress Center, which was later attacked by Russians.

On April 15, the Cabinet of Ministers approves a draft decree by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissing Volodymyr Artiukh as head of the Sumy Regional State Administration.
