Beating of AFU veteran in Kharkiv: accused sentenced to 4 years in prison. PHOTO

Prosecutors from the Nemyshlianskyi District Prosecutor's Office in Kharkiv found a 44-year-old man guilty of beating and shooting a 22-year-old veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war with a prosthetic leg in August 2025.

Details of the case

The crime took place on the evening of 3 August 2025 near a house on 92nd Brigade Street. During an argument, the man took out a pistol charged with rubber bullets and shot his opponent. When the victim fell, the attacker began beating him with his hands and feet and tried to strangle him.

The victim of the attack was a 22-year-old soldier who had lost his leg during combat operations and uses a prosthesis.

On the same day, law enforcement officers detained the attacker. He awaited the court's verdict while in custody.

The defendant pleaded guilty, sincerely repented and apologised to the Ukrainian Armed Forces veteran. The victim voluntarily refused to file a civil lawsuit, stating that he had been compensated for material and moral damages.

Court's verdict

The court took these circumstances into account and recognised them as mitigating factors. No aggravating circumstances were established during the pre-trial investigation.

The Industrial District Court of Kharkiv sentenced the man to 4 years and 6 months of imprisonment.

The appeal period is currently ongoing.
