Strike on Crimea’s "shield": Russian air defence repair centre in Sevastopol hit, – Navy. VIDEO
The Navy, Special Operations Forces and unmanned aerial systems have carried out strikes on military targets in Sevastopol, including the "Granit" facility and Russian military bases in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported by the Ukrainian Navy.
As a result of the operation in the area of the Fiolentivskyi Highway, the Innovation Centre of the "Granit" production and technical enterprise, which is part of the "Almaz-Antey" concern and where Russian air defence systems are repaired and maintained, was struck.
In particular, the concern services equipment that forms the backbone of the occupied Crimea’s air defence "shield". Most frequently, the S-400 "Triumph" and S-300PM2 "Favorit" anti-aircraft missile systems, 92N6E and 96L6E radar stations, and the medium- and short-range "Buk-M2/M3" and "Tor-M2" air defence systems are repaired there.
Enemy personnel positions in the area of Striletska Bay were also struck. Casualty figures are being verified.
What is known about the targeted facility?
The "Granit" Innovation Science and Technology Centre in Sevastopol was established following the occupation of Crimea in 2014:
-
Based at the "Granit" enterprise
-
specialisation: repair, maintenance and modernisation of air defence equipment
-
Research and development projects in the field of armaments have also been announced
-
linked to the Russian state-owned concern "Almaz-Antey"
In fact, this is not a "civilian innovation technology park", but a defence and technical centre operating in the field of air defence.
The centre provides:
-
repair and restoration of anti-aircraft missile systems (AAMS);
-
diagnostics and modernisation of air defence systems;
-
maintenance of radar and auxiliary equipment.
Before this centre was established, equipment often had to be sent to Russia for repair, which increased the time required for restoration.
The centre in Sevastopol allows equipment to be repaired quickly right in Crimea and maintains the constant combat readiness of the air defence forces of the Black Sea Fleet and the Southern Military District.
