Ukraine and U.S. agree to strengthen security guarantees – Zelenskyy after talks with Trump representatives

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy

On April 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with U.S. leader’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, including on the proposal for a ceasefire during the Easter holidays.

He said this in his evening address, Censor.NET reports.

What did Ukraine and the U.S. discuss?

Zelenskyy said he spoke today with U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Senator Lindsey Graham, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. He described the conversation as positive.

According to Zelenskyy, they discussed Ukraine’s proposal for a ceasefire, as well as security guarantees and the involvement of European partners.

Security guarantees

  • The parties agreed to strengthen security guarantees for Ukraine, and Zelenskyy instructed the Ukrainian team to update the documents.

"I have already instructed our team to promptly update the documents so that security guarantees for Ukraine are strong and the prospect of post-war reconstruction is real. Everything must be workable. Everything must be up to date. We see the changes taking place in the world, how much can change in a single moment. This concerns both alliances and security challenges," he said," he said.

According to him, U.S. representatives are ready to work together to reach compromises on issues related to ending the war.

"The key lies in how and on what terms we all speak with Russia together. It also lies in how the documents are prepared, including those on security guarantees, so that Ukrainians clearly understand how partners will respond in the event of renewed Russian aggression and what exactly will deter Russia from aggression," Zelenskyy added.
