This was stated by Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroisman, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

"As for the statement by the Minister [of Ecology and Natural Resources Ostap Semerak - ed.], it is just a perspective direction. As soon as this initiative is precisely outlined, we'll discuss it in detail. That is why I think it's only food for thought," Hroisman said at a conference in Kyiv on Monday.

Earlier, Semerak suggested that Ukraine should launch a full-fledged nuclear cycle and reach the global level in handling its spent nuclear fuel without Russia's participation.

"It is a matter of national security and economic feasibility. I do not see a reason why we have to pay Russia for burying nuclear fuel if we can safely produce it ourselves," Semerak said.

He noted he would hold a debate on this issue with the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine, Enerhoatom (national energy generating company), with possible involvement of donor countries.
