Russia may launch offensive against Kyiv and Chernihiv regions in case of success in east, - Zelenskyy

According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russia is hypothetically considering the option of launching an offensive from the Bryansk region toward the Kyiv and Chernihiv region. However, no buildup of Russian forces has been observed in this direction at this time.
He made these remarks while speaking with reporters, according to Censor.NET, citing Ukrinform.
Russia's Objectives on the Front Lines
"Putin's primary objective on the front lines remains unchanged: Kostiantynivka and Sloviansk. The latest deadline he has given his generals is to complete the occupation of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions by the end of the year. That is impossible—that is our response," Zelenskyy said.
At the same time, while answering questions from journalists, the president suggested that if Russian troops were to succeed in eastern Ukraine, Moscow might redeploy its forces to other areas.
The Threat of a New Offensive
"If he deploys 300,000 new conscripts depending on the situation in the east of our country. If he achieves the success there that he is counting on, then he may redeploy forces to another direction. For example, toward a ‘buffer zone.’ Another possible direction could be the Chernihiv-Kyiv region—he has ideas and theoretical plans for an offensive in that direction from Russia, specifically from the Bryansk region," the president said.
He emphasized that the Ukrainian side is monitoring the situation.
According to Zelenskyy, there are currently no Russian troops in the Bryansk region, but Ukrainian military personnel have spotted military equipment along the border with Russia.
What happened before that?
Earlier, the Main Intelligence Directorate reported that, as February approaches, Russia may launch an offensive in northern Ukraine if it carries out a mobilization.
