Ukraine will try to revive talks with Russia in near future, - Budanov

Budanov outlined Ukraine’s main objective in the war against Russia

Ukraine plans to try to revive talks with Russia on ending the war in the near future.

According to Censor.NET, this was stated in a comment made by Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the President’s Office, to tsn.ua.

They may try to breathe new life into the topic of the negotiations

According to Budanov, the Ukrainian side will attempt to revitalise the negotiation process in the near future. The details of these measures are not being disclosed at this stage.

He explained that negotiations require a quiet atmosphere. According to him, the President had already disclosed what he considered it possible to make public.

"I can tell you that we will be trying in the near future, so to speak, to breathe a little new life into the negotiations. I hope we will manage to achieve something in this regard. At the very least, there are certain signs pointing in that direction," said Budanov.

At the same time, the Head of the President’s Office cautioned against expecting the war to end any time soon.

"I’m not saying that we’re going to stop any war right now. That’s more of a technical matter. But, at the same time, who knows how far it will go," added Budanov.

Not to contain Russia, but to defeat it

Budanov also commented on the Russian leadership’s possible future plans regarding the continuation of the war against Ukraine and a new mobilisation in the Russian Federation.

According to him, Ukraine should not base its strategy solely on the latest threats from the Kremlin.

"Is this the first time you’ve heard threatening statements? Why make a big deal out of it? We need to look after ourselves," emphasised the head of the President’s Office.

Budanov emphasised that Russia remains Ukraine’s enemy, regardless of statements made by its representatives. Budanov described Ukraine’s main objective as defeating the enemy, rather than containing it.

"The enemy will always be the enemy. We need to think about how we are going to defeat the enemy. Not to contain them, but to defeat them. These are completely different ideologies," said the Head of the Presidential Office.

At the same time, Budanov did not rule out the possibility that Russia might carry out a new wave of mobilisation following the State Duma elections. When asked about this risk, he replied: "It is a potential possibility."

Earlier, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, told journalists during a meeting that the window of opportunity for ending the war would last from the G20 summit until the end of summer 2027, as the US presidential election begins after that.

The American newspaper The New York Times recently reported that negotiations between Ukraine and Russia may become possible in a year’s time.
