US, Denmark, and Greenland have concluded security agreement to deter Russia and China in Arctic, - Rubio
The U.S.-Danish agreement on Greenland, signed yesterday with the participation of the island's own authorities, is intended to ensure long-term security in the Arctic region and curb the expansion of China and Russia.
This was stated by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to Censor.NET, citing RBC-Ukraine.
Rubio on the Importance of Greenland
During the conversation, Rubio noted that U.S. President Donald Trump began talking about Greenland as early as his first term, since the island is important to the United States from a security standpoint.
"Under no circumstances can we allow ourselves to wake up one day in a world where there are Chinese bases, Russian bases, or bases belonging to anyone else. That is why this is extremely important to us, and it is a very vulnerable area, because it is a vast expanse of land, a huge territory, yet the population is small. And this agreement ensures exactly that," he said.
Deployment of Troops and Air Defense Systems
He also added that the agreement is permanent and allows the U.S. to establish as many bases on the island as needed. It also includes future options for military capabilities and missile defense in the region.
"It also establishes an investment vetting process so that before any company can come there and invest, it must undergo vetting by us and by Denmark to ensure that it has no ties to China or any other non-NATO country—a kind of adversary. And this is a great deal. Phenomenal," Rubio concluded.
