Organiser of schemes for draft dodgers exposed: he offered escape routes via Moldova or to border with Belarus. PHOTOS

Law enforcement officers in the Lviv region have uncovered and detained a 51-year-old resident of Dnipro who organised a large-scale network for the illegal smuggling of men liable for military service across Ukraine’s state border.

This was reported by Censor.NET, citing the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

Details

Operatives from the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment, working alongside officers from other law enforcement agencies, established that the suspect had devised several escape routes for his clients, bypassing official border crossing points.

The cost of these ‘services’ started at 15,000 US dollars. For this sum, the organiser offered a choice of two main schemes:

  • Route via Moldova: crossing the river section of the border followed by transit to Romania;

  • The "northern" route: transport in military uniform with forged documents directly to the border with Belarus. The organiser demanded an additional 1,700 US dollars to cover transport costs and the production of forged documents for this scheme.

Law enforcement officers caught the suspect "red-handed" whilst he was receiving another instalment of payment from a client.

The suspect has now been served with a notice of suspicion. He faces a prison sentence of between 7 and 9 years, with confiscation of property. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
