In Khmelnytskyi, a 46-year-old man has been sentenced to 3 years and 6 months’ imprisonment for detonating an RGD-5 grenade in the courtyard of a residential building. As a result of the explosion, he lost an arm, and a 60-year-old passer-by was also injured.

This was reported by the Khmelnytskyi regional police, according to Censor.NET.

It is reported that the incident took place on 8 September 2025 at around 7.00 pm on Zarichanska Street. A local resident detonated an RGD-5 grenade in the courtyard of a residential building.

As a result of the explosion, the accused suffered a serious injury – his arm had to be amputated. The 60-year-old passer-by sustained minor injuries.

Law enforcement officers detained the man in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He was subsequently charged with hooliganism and the unlawful handling of military ammunition.

Following the completion of the pre-trial investigation, the indictment was submitted to the court.

The court found the Khmelnytskyi resident guilty under Part 4 of Article 296 and Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to 3 years and 6 months’ imprisonment.
