Slovakia does not view Russia as threat – Defense Minister Kaliňák

Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák does not believe that the greatest threat to European security comes from Moscow.

What is known?
During a televised debate with former NATO Ambassador Tomáš Valášek of the opposition party "Progressive Slovakia," he denied that Russia poses a threat to Slovakia.
Kalinyak defended the government's policy, which, he said, is based on maintaining good relations and preventing the escalation of conflicts.
The defense minister also rejected the assertion by German Foreign Minister Wadeful that the greatest threat to the freedom of the European continent comes from Moscow.
"I disagree with him. Because we do not view Russia as a threat to Slovakia," Kalinak said.
At the same time, he acknowledged that other countries’ perspectives may differ due to their historical experiences. In particular, he mentioned the Baltic states and Poland.
"When one of our allies faces a problem, we, of course, come to their aid and support them with the resources at our disposal—which is, in fact, what we are already doing today," he added.
At the same time, Valášek criticized the Slovak government's security policy.
According to him, efforts to establish good relations with Russia have not brought Slovakia greater security or respect from Moscow.
