Hungary has given ’green light’ for opening of two more clusters for Ukraine, - Sybiha

Hungary

Hungary has lifted its veto on Ukraine’s further progress in negotiations on accession to the European Union. Budapest has given the ‘green light’ for the opening of clusters 2, ‘Internal Market’, and 3, ‘Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth’.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced this on the X platform, according to Censor.NET.

According to Sybiha, Ukraine and Hungary are taking steps together towards each other and towards European unity.

"A bill aimed at regulating the educational rights of national communities has recently been tabled in the Ukrainian parliament and approved by the relevant committee," the minister said.

The Foreign Minister stated that today, 7 October, at the level of the Committee of Permanent Representatives, the Hungarian side had unblocked the negotiating positions regarding: Cluster 2 ‘Internal Market’ and Cluster 3 ‘Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth’.

Sybiha thanked the Hungarian Foreign Minister, Anita Orbán, for their collaboration, which "serves the interests of both our friendly nations and a strong Europe".

What led up to it

It was previously reported that Budapest is prepared to unblock the start of the negotiation clusters on Ukraine’s accession to the EU, but is making a demand. The Hungarian side’s key condition is the safeguarding of the rights of national communities.
