Kyiv metro suspends train services and escalator operations due to voltage drop. VIDEO (updated)

On Thursday, October 8, train services and escalator operations in the Kyiv metro were temporarily suspended due to a voltage drop.

The Kyiv City State Administration reported this, Censor.NET reports.

Update. As of 7:30, train services have resumed on all Kyiv metro lines. Trains are running at longer intervals: 10 minutes on the Red Line, five minutes on the Blue Line and 10 minutes on the Green Line. All metro stations are open for entry, the Kyiv City State Administration reports.

Reason

According to officials, metro train services were suspended "due to a drop in voltage from external power supply facilities."

A further announcement will be made when services resume.

Update

The Kyiv City State Administration later clarified that train services are gradually resuming on the Blue and Green metro lines, with longer intervals between trains. Services on the Red Line remain suspended.

In addition, some public transport services in Kyiv have been temporarily suspended due to a voltage drop in the power system. Arrangements are being made to promptly provide buses along the Borshchahivka high-speed tram route to transport passengers.

Background

  • As a reminder, Russian troops have been attacking Kyiv with drones since the night of October 8. Three people are reported dead and 14 injured in the attack.
  • Since October 4, trains have again been running on the above-ground section of the metro's Green Line during yellow-level alerts.
  • On September 6, Kyiv introduced differentiated air threat alerts in accordance with a Cabinet of Ministers decision. Kyiv residents now receive yellow-level alerts, indicating a drone threat, and red-level alerts, which may indicate a mass drone attack, a missile threat or a combined (missile and drone) threat.
